Wise Tallies First Goal; U17 Team Falls to Muskegon 4-1

Jake Wise scored his first goal of the preseason and K'Andre Miller added his fourth point of the season in a 4-1 loss to Muskegon.

Muskegon, Mich. - Jake Wise tallied his first goal as a member of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program Under-17 Team but Team USA fell 4-1 on Saturday night at L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon.

The loss drops the U17s to 0-2-0 in the preseason.

Muskegon veteran Logan Drevitch led the Lumberjacks' offensive attack with the game's first goal and an assist. Jordan Timmons scored twice while Derek Daschk added another tally.

Muskegon led, 2-0, after one period and 3-0 after forty minutes.

After being outshot, 10-5, in the first period, the U17s picked up the pace offensively in the second frame with a 9-6 advantage.  

Their best scoring chances in the period came on Eric Middendorf's (Scottsdale, Ariz.) shorthanded breakaway at 10:00 and Oliver Wahlstrom's (Quincy, Mass.) chance through traffic outside the Muskegon blue ice about a minute later.

Team USA continued their press in the third period, outshooting the LumberJacks 14-8, but Muskegon goaltender Adam Brizgala played well. In all, he stopped 27-of-28 Team USA shots.

Wahlstrom had another good chance at the left post at 6:30 into the third period, but hit the side of the net on a redirect. Jake Pivonka (Woodridge, Ill.) was denied by at the left post at 12:30 of the period, Brizgala stopped Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) from the hashmarks at 13:20 of the period. He stopped Middendorf in tight about a minute later.

Wise tallied the lone U17 goal on a power play at 15:44 with an assist from K'Andre Miller (Hopkins, Minn.). Miller now has two goals and two assists in two games for the U17s.

Ryan Ullan (Hibbing, Minn.) played the entire game in goal in his debut for the U17s and stopped 20-of-24 shots. 

The U17s are back in action next Saturday in Pittsburgh against the Johnstown (PA) Tomahawks.  The U17s' USHL regular season home opener is Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at USA Hockey Arena against Muskegon.
