2016 U.S. Men's National U18 Team Roster Announced

Team USA Seeks Third-Straight Gold Medal in Event

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey today announced the 22-player roster for the U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team that will compete at the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Men's World Championship from April 14-24, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The United States is featured in Group A along with Latvia, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland and will play its round-robin portion of the schedule at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Group B consists of Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland and Slovakia.

The U.S. seeks its third-straight gold medal in the event after capturing the tournament title last year in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland. Team USA has earned 12 straight medals, including gold in six of the past seven tournaments. Overall, the U.S. boasts 14 medals at the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship, the most of any country.

Nineteen players on the U.S. roster come from USA Hockey's NTDP. Three skaters hail from outside of the NTDP: Logan Brown played for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, Casey Mittelstadt suited up for Eden Prairie High School and Kailer Yamamoto was with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League ... All 22 players on Team USA's roster were born in 1998. Forward Nick Pastujov (Jan. 21, 1998) is the oldest player on Team USA, while goaltender Jake Oettinger, born Dec. 18, 1998, is the youngest ... Eleven different states are represented on the roster. Minnesota leads the way with six skaters, while Missouri and New York boast three each ... The U.S. enters the tournament having captured a record 12-consecutive medals, including gold medals in six of the last seven years (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015) ... Team USA has won nine gold medals all-time, the most of any country in IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship history. The event began in 1999. Team USA earned its first gold medal in 2002 ...
