Bellows notches six points in two games versus Green Bay

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.) tallied two goals including the game winner to lift the U.S. National Under-18 Team over Green Bay, 3-2, here tonight at USA Hockey Arena. With the win, Team USA sweeps the two-game weekend series with the Gamblers.

In the opening frame, the Gamblers struck first at 5:25. Then, USA answered on the power play at 7:58, when Bellows notched the equalizer from the top left circle to close the period tied at one goal apiece.

USA scored the lone goal in the second stanza when Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) backhanded a pass to Bellows, who took the shot from the right circle. Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) netted the subsequent rebound for the go-ahead goal.

During the final frame, Green Bay’s Grant Frederic scored just 37 seconds into the period to knot the game once more. The contest remained tied, 2-2, until Bellows tucked the puck behind Gamblers netminder Kevin Reich while standing at the top of the crease for the game-winning marker and the 3-2 final score.

Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.) made the start in net for the Under-18 Team and turned aside 19 shots in the win.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team next turns its focus to international play as the 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament will be held from Feb. 9-14 in Finland.
