Keller and Anderson Each Record One Goal, One Assist

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) and Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) recorded one goal and one assist each but the U.S. National Under-18 Team was clipped by Michigan State University, 3-2, in overtime here this evening at Munn Ice Arena.

The Spartans scored first at 12:29 of the opening period when Mackenzie MacEachern fired a shot over the shoulder of U.S. netminder Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.) from the right goal line. Team USA managed five shots on net, but couldn't find the equalizer after 20 minutes of action.

Team USA outshot Michigan State, 13-7, in the second stanza but National Team Development Program alumnus, Edwin Minney (Wind Gap, Pa./2012-14), turned aside each U.S. chance to hold on to the 1-0 lead.

Michigan State doubled its advantage, 2-0, early in the third frame when J.T. Stenglein scooped up the puck and wristed it into the corner of the cage. Keller sliced the Spartan lead in half at 14:17 with helpers going to Anderson and Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.). With under a minute left in regulation, Woll was pulled in favor of the extra attacker. Anderson knocked in a rebound to knot the game, 2-2, sending the contest into overtime. Keller and Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) assisted on the equalizer.

A power-play marker 3:09 into the extra frame sealed the victory for the Spartans.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team next heads home for United States Hockey League action next weekend (Jan. 29-30) when the Green Bay Gamblers visit USA Hockey Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. both nights and can be seen via streaming video at FASTHockey.com.
