Team USA Rallies from Down 2-1; Bellows Nets Game Winner

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Zach Walker (Boise, Idaho) netted two goals and Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.) potted the game winner to complete a 5-2 comeback victory for the U.S. National Under-18 Team over the Sioux City Musketeers tonight at USA Hockey Arena.

In the opening period, Sioux City struck first at 6:44. Throughout the rest of the frame, both teams battled physically and traded scoring chances but neither team could convert, leaving Sioux City with a 1-0 lead to end the period.

In the second stanza, USA opened the scoring just 1:46 into the frame as Luke Martin (St. Louis, Mo.) fired a shot from the top of the right circle to net the equalizer. Minutes later, Sioux City regained the lead with 13 seconds left on a power-play opportunity to close the period leading 2-1.

After end-to-end action in the third, Walker scored his first marker of the night on a falling shot. With just under five minutes to play, Bellows threaded a shot between Sioux City goaltender Evan Smith and the near post for the go-ahead goal. Back-to-back tallies from Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn) and Walker capped scoring in the 5-2 victory.

USA goaltender Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) stopped 32-of-34 shots in the victory.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team and Sioux City are in action tomorrow (Dec. 5) for the second of back-to-back meetings. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will stream live on FASTHockey.com.

Tomorrow’s contest will feature the first annual National Team Development Program Teddy Bear Toss. All donations will benefit the Plymouth Community United Way. While fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used stuffed animals from home, they will also be available for purchase at USA Hockey Arena.
