NTDP Squads Host Three Games This Week

U17s also Face the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Road

The U.S. National Under-17 and Under-18 Teams will both be in action this week against United States Hockey League opponents. The U18s play a two-game home set while the U17s have a home-and-road series in conference play. Team USA is a combined 7-7-1 (W-L-OTL) in the USHL.

HERE COMES SIOUX CITY: The U18s host the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday and Saturday at USA Hockey Arena. Face-off is 7 p.m. both nights.

The U18s swept three games last week, posting wins over Adrian College (4-1 on Wednesday), the Youngstown Phantoms (3-1 on Friday) and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (5-2 on Sunday).

Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.), Nick Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.), Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo.) and Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) scored against Adrian. Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.) stopped 38 of 39 shots to earn the win.

Will Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) scored twice and Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.) recorded the game winner against Youngstown. Goalie Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) stopped 24 of 25 shots.

Woll kicked out 25 of 27 shots in the win over Stevens Point. James Sanchez (Northbrook, Ill.), Graham McPhee (Bethesda, Md.), Anderson, Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) and Zach Walker (Boise, Idaho) scored the goals.

HOME AND AWAY: The U17s host the Bloomington Thunder at 7 p.m. Thursday before heading to Muskegon to face the Lumberjacks at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The U17s lost 3-2 at Bloomington on Friday. Josh Maniscalco (Perkiomenville, Pa.) and Michael Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) tallied third-period goals while Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) finished with 31 saves. 

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, the U17s dropped an 8-4 decision to the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association in a charity game. David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.), Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.), Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) notched the goals.

  • Former National Team Development Program player A.J. Sturges (Madison, Wis./2005-07) was recently named head coach for West Virginia University in the American Collegiate Hockey Association first division. In addition, Sturges is working on PhD in sport and exercise psychology at WVU.

  • St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y./2005-07) earned NHL Third Star honors for the week ending Nov. 22. Shattenkirk tallied two goals and recorded six points in four games for the Blues, including two helpers against both Winnipeg (Nov. 16) and Detroit (Nov. 21).

  • Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y./2004-06) set the point-streak record by an American-born player at 19 games with this goal in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. He has 11 goals and 20 assists during the streak, which began on Oct. 17 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. 

  • Dallas Stars forward Patrick Eaves (Fairbault, Minn./2000-02) played in his 500th NHL game on Saturday. He has 88 goals and 173 points in his career.

  • Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin (Waterford, Mich./2012-14) leads all rookies with 10 goals in 24 games and has scored a goal in six of his last seven games.

  • The U18s carry an 18-4-1 (W-L-T) mark into this week’s action and have won four straight games.

  • Clayton Keller (15-27) leads the U18s with 42 points in 23 games. Kieffer Bellows (18-12) is second with 30 points, while Adam Fox (3-19) is third with 22 points. Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn./1-16--17) and Joey Anderson (7-9--16) round out the top five.

  • Jake Oettinger and Joseph Woll continue to split time in net for the U18s. Oettinger is 10-3 with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. Woll is 8-1-1 with a 1.74 GAA and a .931 save percentage.

  • The U17s carry an 8-9-4 (W-L-OTL) overall mark into this week’s contests.

  • The U17s are led by Scott Reedy (9-11), who has 20 points in 21 games. Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa./7-12) is second with 19 points, while Josh Norris (7-7) ranks third with 14 points. Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn./7-7) is fourth with 14 points. Logan Hutsko (North Caldwell, N.J./3-9) and Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo./5-7) round out the top six with 12 points each.

  • In goal for the U17s, Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) and Adam Scheel split time. St. Cyr is 4-6-2 with a 3.37 GAA and an .887 save percentage. Scheel is 4-3-2 with a 4.12 GAA and an .886 save percentage.
