U18s Cruise Past UW-Stevens Point, 5-2, in Plymouth

James Sanchez Leads Way with One Goal, Three Assists


PLYMOUTH, Mich. - James Sanchez (Northbrook, Ill./1-2) and Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo./0-3) each recorded three-point games as the U.S. National Under-18 Team cruised past the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 5-2, here today at USA Hockey Arena. With the victory, Team USA's record improved to 5-1-1 (W-L-T) overall versus collegiate competition, including a 2-0-0 record versus Division III squads.

Sanchez opened the scoring midway through the first frame, lighting the lamp at 10:08. Frederic and Griffin Luce (Williamsville, N.Y.) earned assists on the play.

The second stanza saw five tallies between teams, with the Pointers finding the back of the net first at 2:42. Team USA responded just 1:30 later off the stick of Graham McPhee (Bethesda, Md.). Frederic and Sanchez collected helpers. Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) pushed the U.S. lead to two markers at 11:16 and Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) added the fourth U18 goal at 17:44. With 38 seconds remaining in the period, Stevens Point struck to slice the U.S. lead in half, 4-2.

Zach Walker (Boise, Idaho) closed the scoring at 8:25 of the final frame and Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.) turned away all nine shots he faced to help ice the game, 5-2, in favor of the Under-18 Team.

Woll made 25 total saves in the win for the U.S.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team next faces a two-game series versus the United States Hockey League's Sioux City Musketeers at USA Hockey Arena on Dec. 4-5. Both contests are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts and each can be seen live via streaming video on FASTHockey.com.
