Joseph Woll Stops 39 of 40 Shots in the Victory

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - U.S. goaltender Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.) stopped 39-of-40 Adrian College shots in the U.S. National Under-18 Team’s 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs tonight at USA Hockey Arena.

The Under-18 Team and Adrian traded chances throughout the first period. The best USA opportunity came when Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) skated end-to-end and clanked a shot off the far goalpost over Adrian goaltender Tyler Parks’ shoulder.

About four minutes later, Adrian collapsed on the USA net and Connor Armour chipped the puck over Woll to open scoring and give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

In the middle frame, the Under-18 Team and Adrian continued to trade chances. The Bulldogs ramped up the physicality, crashing the net for scoring chances often. With 1:08 to play and on the power play, Keller cycled to the bottom of the right circle in the offensive zone and fed Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) in the slot for the wrist-shot equalizer, closing the second period in a 1-1 tie.

Just 1:30 into the final frame Nick Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) tucked the puck past Adrian goaltender Parks for the go-ahead goal. Later, off a great feed from Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.), Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo.) roofed a shot for the third USA goal. At 11:47, Keller fired a top-shelf shot off a cross-ice saucer pass from Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) for the 4-1 final score.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team is in action in United States Hockey League play Friday (Nov. 27) against the Youngstown Phantoms at the Covelli Centre. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m., and the game will stream live on FASTHockey.com.
