USA vs. Canada - The Series

The United States and Canada will do battle for the 13th time at the IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship today, renewing a rivalry that took a one-year hiatus as the two nations haven’t played since Team Canada knocked off the U.S. in the 2013 gold-medal game in Sochi, Russia. Overall, Team USA owns a 7-2-2-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against the Canadians, including wins in six of the last seven games. The rivals have played a total of five games in the semifinals prior to today’s contest, with the U.S. holding a 2-2-1-0 edge in those outings.

The U.S. Men’s National Under-18 Team is 6-4-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) in 12 all-time appearances in the semifinals at the IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, including wins in each of its last six showings in the semifinal round. Last year, the United States clipped Sweden, 4-1, in the semis en route to the country’s eighth all-time gold medal at the tournament.
