NEW HOPE, Minn. - Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill./2-1) and Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn./0-3) each registered three points and goaltender Joseph Woll (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) made 27 saves to help the U.S. National Under-17 Team defeat Team Southeast of the Minnesota Elite League, 8-2, at New Hope Arena today.

Team USA scored four first-period goals and skated into the first intermission with a 4-1 lead. Graham McPhee (Bethesda, Md.) gave the Under-17s a 1-0 edge just 1:46 into the contest when he beat Team Southeast goaltender Dyllan Lubbesmeyer with a wrister from the left circle. Keenan Suthers (Macomb, Mich.) doubled the U.S. lead two minutes later when he batted a rebound in from the edge of the crease. Max Jones (Rochester, Mich.) made it 3-0 at 8:39 on a one-timer, and Keller’s first goal of the game made it 4-0.

The Minnesota Elite League squad pulled within three before the end of one period, but Keller notched his second tally 5:51 into the middle frame to make it 5-1. After taking a pass in the slot, Keller waited, moved to his left and sent a shot into the top corner. A Team Southeast goal in the final minute of the stanza made it 5-2 going into the second intermission.

William Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) tipped a shot from the point through goaltender Ryan Edquist’s pads 5:56 into the third to make it 6-2. Matthew Hellickson (Rogers, Minn.) scored on a shot from the point just past the midway point of the frame, and Keeghan Howdeshell (Brighton, Mich.) tapped in a backdoor pass from McPhee with 31 seconds to play to close the scoring.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team skates against Minnesota Elite League's Team Southwest tomorrow (Oct. 12) at 12 p.m. ET. The game can be followed through live scoring at usantdp.com or on Twitter @USANTDP.
