EAST LANSING, Mich. - Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass./2-1) and Sonny Milano (Massapequa, N.Y./1-2) had three points each as the U.S. National Under-18 Team upended Michigan State University in overtime, 4-3, here tonight at Munn Ice Arena. With the victory, Team USA's record improves to 8-8-0 (W-L-T) in collegiate action. The contest was the final game within the NCAA for the Under-18 Team.

Team USA opened the scoring at 8:08 of the first period. Milano skated down the right sideboards and found a streaking Eichel on the left side. Eichel dropped to one knee and one-timed the pass into the net for the score. Alex Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) also earned an assist on the marker.

Eichel and Milano connected again to double the U.S. lead midway through the first stanza. Slipping around a Spartan defender, Eichel fed Milano on the goal line to the left of MSU's net. Milano skated toward the goal, deked and backhanded a shot high past Michigan State netminder Jake Hildebrand to finish the play. Brandon Fortunato (North Hills, N.Y.) also assisted on the power-play strike.

Team USA extended its lead to three in the middle frame with its second power-play tally. Jack Glover (Golden Valley, Minn.) sent a shot on net that caromed off Auston Matthews (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and into the cage. The Spartans responded less than a minute later on a second chance in front of goalie Edwin Minney (Wind Gap, Pa.). Michigan State continued to close the gap with the Under-18 Team, potting a power-play goal at 15:19.

The Spartans knotted the game at three at 13:03 of the third while shorthanded. The tally stood as the only marker in the period, sending the game into sudden-death overtime.

One shot was all the U.S. would need to secure the overtime win over the Spartans, with Milano feeding Eichel again before Eichel rocketed a shot past Hildebrand. Shane Gersich (Chaska, Minn.) registered the secondary assist.

Minney turned away 20 shots in the win for Team USA, while Hildebrand made 25 saves in the loss for Michigan State.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns home to face the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in United States Hockey League action next weekend (March 7-8). Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. EST at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
