ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Colin White (Hanover, Mass.) notched one goal and added an assist and Luke Kirwan (DeWitt, N.Y.) and Jordan Greenway (Potsdam, N.Y.) also scored as the U.S. National Under-17 Team was tripped up by the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 5-3, here tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. With the loss, Team USA falls to 20-20-3 (W-L-OTL) and now sits nine points behind the fourth and final playoff spot in the United States Hockey League's Eastern Conference.

Dubuque struck first at 5:18 in the first period with a power-play goal. Luke Kunin (Chesterfield, Mo.) nearly tied the game for the U17s on a breakaway, but his shot rifled off the crossbar. The Fighting Saints added another tally at 12:25 to extend their lead, 2-0.

Team USA responded at 3:32 in the second stanza to cut Dubuque’s lead in half. White fired a pass from behind the net to Kirwan, who buried a slap shot from the bottom of the left circle. Jeremy Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) also registered an assist on the play. Dubuque struck again at 16:14, but the U.S. quickly answered less than a minute later to pull within one, 3-2. Greenway received a pass on the left side from Brendan Warren (Carleton, Mich.) and wristed it into the back of the net.

The Fighting Saints padded their lead on a five-on-three man-advantage at 3:08 of the third period. White made it a one-goal game with 22 seconds left on the clock after Team USA pulled netminder Michael Lackey (Washington, D.C.) in favor of an extra attacker. Kunin recorded an assist on the play. Dubuque notched an empty-net goal before time expired and the U17s fell short, 5-3.

Lackey made 30 saves for Team USA in the loss, while Kevin Reich stopped 27 shots for the Fighting Saints in the win.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will face the Dubuque Fighting Saints in a rematch tomorrow (March 2) afternoon. Puck drop is slated for 3:30 p.m. EST at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
