TROY, Mich. - Dennis Yan (Troy, Mich.) scored two goals and Jordan Greenway (Potsdam, N.Y.) registered two assists as the U.S. National Under-17 Team rolled over the North American Hockey League 18U Selects, 5-1, here tonight at the Troy Sports Center. The contest served as a display of some of the top 18U players in the NAHL squaring off against the U17 squad from USA Hockey's National Team Development Program.

Noah Hanifin (Norwood, Mass.) scored what proved to be the lone goal of the first period at the 15:20 mark. A Christian Fischer (Wayne, Ill.) pass found the stick of Brendan Warren (Carleton, Mich.) in the right corner. Warren zipped it to Hanifin who had pinched in from the point before he deked once and let the puck slide past Chase Perry for the tally.

Yan potted a rebound goal just 13 seconds into the second stanza. Greenway and Nicholas Boka (Plymouth, Mich.) added helpers. Team USA pushed its lead to three goals with a power-play marker from Caleb Jones (Frisco, Texas.) at 10:16. Colin White (Hanover, Mass.) stood at the point and found Jones in the right faceoff circle. Jones whipped a shot hard along the ice and under Perry's pads. Charles McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y) also picked up an assist. Luke Kirwan (DeWitt, N.Y.) made it a 4-0 game with a power-play goal of his own 1:34 later, burying a one-timer from Jeremy Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) in the slot. Christian Evers (Waukee, Iowa) sent Bracco with a long breakout pass to collect an assist.

Yan netted his second of the night at 13:00 of the final frame, again teaming up with Greenway for the fifth U.S. score. The 18U Selects spoiled Team USA's shutout bid with 59 seconds remaining before the buzzer sounded, capping the game, 5-1.

Luke Opilka (St. Louis, Mo.) made 14 saves in the win for the U.S., while Perry and Logan Halladay combined to turn aside 22 shots for the NAHL 18U Selects.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will enjoy a weekend off before preparing for back-to-back home contests against the Dubuque Fighting Saints on March 1-2. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST and 3:30 p.m. respectively at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
