ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Three different players scored, as the U.S. National Under-18 Team got by the Youngstown Phantoms, 3-2, on Jan. 31, at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The game marked the final bout before Team USA travels to Jonkoping, Sweden for the Five Nations Tournament.

After a scoreless first frame, which saw the U.S. outshoot the Phantoms, 18-5, Gage Ausmus (East Grand Forks, Minn.) put Team USA on the board. The power-play strike at 12:01 of the second stanza was assisted on by Michael McCarron (Macomb, Mich.) and Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.). The Under-18 Team held Youngstown to just three shots in the second period, including a stretch of over 10 minutes in which Team USA did not give up a shot.

A quick goal by Youngstown tied the game at one goal each, 31 seconds into the third period. The marker was scored with the man advantage. Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill.) answered for the U.S. at 8:21 to regain the lead, 2-1. Assisting on the goal was J.T. Compher (Northbrook, Ill.) and John Hayden (Greenwich, Conn.). Team USA enjoyed a two-goal lead after Tyler Motte backhanded a shot into the net at 11:21. Kevin Labanc (Staten Island, N.Y.) found Motte in front of the net, with Sean Malone (West Seneca, N.Y.) earning the second helper. The Phantoms potted a goal at 14:32 to close the gap with the U.S., 3-2, but Youngstown would not find the equalizer before time expired.

Hunter Miska (North Branch, Minn.) made 14 saves for the U18s in the victory, while Sean Romeo turned aside 41 shots for the Phantoms in the loss.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team will next travel to Jonkoping, Sweden for the Five Nations Tournament. The tournament runs from Feb. 6-10 and features teams from the U.S., the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and Sweden. Team USA first faces Finland, Feb. 6, at 9:30 a.m. EST.
