MIDDLETON, Wis. Jake Stuart (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) netted his fourth goal of the season late in regulation to spoil the shutout, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Madison Capitols by a 5-1 final Saturday night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena in Wisconsin.

The home team lit the lamp first as Jack Brandt netted a power-play tally one second past the halfway mark of the opening period. James Hong took a pass at the left circle, fired a shot from the hashmark and Brandt redirected it over the shoulder of Joey Slavick (Westland, Mich.) for a 1-0 lead.

Andrew Kuzma doubled the Capitols' lead with a one-timer from the right circle one the power play at 5:37 of the second period.

With 4:08 to play in the second, Grant Uhlenkamp connected top-shelf for his fourth score of the season to extend Madison's lead to 3-0.

Mason Moe collected his first career USHL goal to make it four in a row for the Caps just over six minutes into the third. Brendan Lamb followed shortly after, beating Slavick five-hole after chasing down a loose puck.

Team USA got on the board with 6:41 to play for the game's final goal at 5-1. Conrad Fondrk (White Bear Lake, Mich.) pushed the puck to Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) behind the net. He centered it for Stuart, who put it in the back of the net for his fourth score of the season.

Slavick finished his night with 27 saves, his fourth-most on the season.

The U17s finish their weekend tomorrow afternoon in Muskegon. They will complete a previously suspended game from February 17 with the Lumberjacks leading 3-0 after 40 minutes of play. The continuation will start at 1:00 p.m. ET from Mercy Health Arena.
