Slavick earns second USHL win; Potter scores three goals on the weekend

GENEVA, Ill. - Joey Slavick (Westland, Mich.) made 29 saves to backstop the U.S. National Under-17 Team to a 3-1 win over the Chicago Steel Sunday afternoon inside Fox Valley Ice Arena.

The win marks Slavick's fourth of the season and second in the USHL, as well as the first weekend sweep for the team in USHL play.

Highlight

For the second night in a row, it was Conrad Fondrk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) who broke the ice. Jacob Kvasnicka (Plymouth, Minn.) picked the puck free behind the U.S. goal and fed it to Fondrk in stride. He carried it up the ice and snapped a wrister from the right circle 5:21 into the game.

Donny Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) doubled Team USA's lead just 20 seconds later right off the draw. Will Moore (Ithaca, N.Y.) won a faceoff at the right dot to find Garrett Lindberg (Moorhead, Minn.) at the point. He dished the puck to Bracco, who beat Steel goaltender Louka Cloutier far-side from just atop the left circle.

Cullen Potter (Minneapolis, Minn.) made it a 3-0 game with 2:59 left in the middle frame. Will Horcoff (Blooomfield Hills, Mich.) found linemate Kristian Epperson (Mequon, Wis.) along the goal line. Epperson used a nifty spin-o-rama to find Potter in the low slot, who made no mistake with a laser of a one-timer.

The Steel got on the board with 5:47 left in the game with a Michael Hage one-timer, but failed to complete the comeback attempt as Slavick stood tall in net, leading Team USA to the 3-1 victory.

The U17s have a bye next week before heading to Green Bay for a joust with the Gamblers on Friday, March 22. Puck drop is set for 8:05 p.m. ET from the Resch Center and the game can be seen live on FloHockey.TV.
